Debt Map Services
Debt counselling is a legal and necessary debt relief measure provided for by the National Credit Act.
The process is available to all consumers who are overburdened with debt and would benefit from advice. Your counsellor can negotiate with credit providers for a reduced payment option and restructuring of debt.
No harassment and no legal action
Debt counsellors take over communication with credit providers to renegotiate terms. That means no more annoying phone calls from debt collectors or credit providers. No legal action can be taken against clients under debt counselling as their counsellor now controls their finances.
Take control of your finances
Clients pay reduced instalments and less interest when under debt counselling. They now can start working on their path to financial freedom as there is less risk of missing a payment because it is easier to manage one payment per month.
Debt counselling helps clients break their debt cycle by restructuring their payments towards their various credit providers.
Who can apply for debt counselling?
Anyone struggling to meet their debt repayments but still have a monthly income can apply for debt counselling. A qualified and registered debt counsellor will assess the finances of the applicant to determine their overindebtedness. The client signs over power of attorney to Debt Map, whereafter they will send out instructions to all credit providers involved.

Debt Map has affordable debt solutions
Clients who choose to solve their debt problems by using a debt counsellor sign over a power of attorney to the counsellor.
They remain under debt counselling until the counsellor issues a clearance certificate that states that the client's paid their debt, which includes:
- All unsecured and short-term forms of debt such as personal loans, retail accounts, and credit cards,
- Clients who have bond payments need to make sure all unsecured debt and bond payments are up to date.
Debt Map works around a repayment period of 5 years as prescribed by national guidelines, but clients can finish repayments early if they can.
Why is debt counselling the best solution if you are over-indebted?
Debt counselling services have a reputation of not taking the clients best interest into account, which makes many customers doubt it. At Debt Map, registered counselling professionals conduct all services. All processes align with the National Credit Act.
Clients can feel comfortable knowing that they are legally protected under debt counselling, as their counsellor is now in control of their payments. Credit providers thus cannot threaten to take away the assets of the client to cover the debt.
Debt counselling won't cause you to be blacklisted
Debt counselling is a means to take care of debt and will not cause a client to be blacklisted. Debt Map will give notice to the credit bureau that the client is over-indebted and placed under debt counselling.
As soon as your Debt Map issues their clearance certificate that indicates the client paid their debt, the credit bureaus will update their score and remove the notice.
Clients cannot get into more debt when using debt counselling services
Clients are not allowed to take out more forms of debt as this defeats the purpose of debt counselling. The point is for the client to become debt-free and to learn how to manage the payments that they currently have.
